Last weekend the British Wheelchair Racing Association & British Wheelchair Athletics Association held the 2023 National Championships, in association with British Athletics. Stoke Mandeville (the home of the Paralympic movement) was the venue for these Senior Championships.

Leeds City AC were represented by Ollie Porter and Hannah Cockcroft OBE and where they both decided to take on the monumental challenge of competing across multiple events. Ollie competed in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m (with heats and finals for all); whilst Hannah competed across the same distances, she also competed for Team GB in the Universal relay (posting a world leading time).

With so many events being covered, it is no surprise that PB’s were in short supply, however, there were some stand-out performances:

Hannah

100m – best performance 16.97 (only 0.66 off her world record)

800m – two very tactical races (the latter in pouring rain), but resulting in 2 wins against very talented athletes

Ollie

800m – personal best in 1:55.31 (1 second quicker than his previous best time)

The next competition for Hannah is the World Para Athletics Championships in Paris – she is competing in the 100m (13 July) and the 800m (16 July). Whilst Ollie will be competing in the National Junior Games at the beginning of July.
