Some things you should know before you join ....
- We are a competitive club, and all members are affiliated with England Athletics (EA) for competition, with EA membership included as part of their annual subscription.
- Coaches are qualified through UK Athletics. All are volunteers, dedicated to working with their athletes to develop and improve skills in training sessions in preparation and readiness for performance in competition.
- Participation in competition is crucial for athlete development and self-improvement. It is a club expectation that everyone competes in the club vest across the year.
- We are an inclusive club and try to accommodate as broad a range of athletes as we can, but like all clubs we have limited resources and so if we are unable to offer you a suitable coaching path at this time, the team will direct you to other sporting organisations who may better meet your needs.
- Leeds City AC is a competitive club with the expectation that all athletes compete. Coaches will support and facilitate this.

Got Questions? We've Got Answers!
Most common questions ....
Whether you’re new to athletics or a seasoned runner, we’re here to make sure you have all the information you need. Check out our FAQs below for quick answers to the questions we get asked most.
Are there trial sessions for new athletes?
Yes. All new athletes can attend 2 ‘taster sessions’ (trial sessions) to see if the club is a good fit. The sessions cost £5 for junior and senior athletes. Wheelchair athletes receive the first taster session free to ensure equipment compatibility.
Do I need to compete to join?
Yes. Leeds City AC is a competitive club, and participation in competition is important for athlete development. It is expected that all athletes compete in the club vest throughout the year. Coaches provide support and guidance to help members prepare for competitions.
Who are the coaches, and what qualifications do they have?
All of our coaches are qualified, experienced, and passionate about helping athletes reach their potential. They hold nationally recognised coaching certifications and have extensive experience working with all ages and abilities. Many have competed at regional or national levels themselves, giving them first-hand insight into training and competition. For more details on each coach’s background and qualifications, please see our coaches page.
How do I join Leeds City Athletics Club?
To join, simply fill out our online enquiry form with your athlete’s age, experience, and goals. If they’re a potential fit, we’ll invite them to a friendly assessment session to review their skills and strengths. Afterward, we’ll match them to a suitable training group or program, or keep them on our waiting list if no spot is currently available. Once a place opens, we’ll offer them a spot and provide all the details to get started, welcoming them into our supportive club community from day one.
Non-payment procedures
If at any time you cancel your subscription, your account will fall into arrears. You will be asked by the club to bring your account balance up to date by the end of that month and set up the standing order for future payments.
If this does not happen by the 1st of the following month, you will not be able to train at John Charles Stadium on club nights. Each monthly payment missed will be added to your outstanding balance. Once your account balance is brought up to date and a new subscription is set up for the 1st of each month, you will be able to resume training again.
If an athlete leaves the club with an account in arrears you will not be allowed to re-join the club or join another club without paying their account arrears.
Regular non-payers may be asked to leave the club and have their membership cancelled. If this happens, you will potentially have your England Athletic membership suspended and will not be able to compete as a Leeds City Athletic Club athlete. If the member is in genuine financial difficulty, the member needs to contact the club to review their circumstances.
* Please note – failure to pay the correct fee and/or submit the correct forms may impact on the athlete being able to compete.
