Safeguarding & welfare

Safeguarding in sport is the process of protecting children and adults from harm by providing a safe space in which they can participate. A key part of child safeguarding is spreading the message about keeping children safe and building a culture of always acting in the best interest of all children.

Welfare covers a range of issues such as safeguarding and protecting children, anti-bullying and ensuring good practice in coaching. It encompasses policies and procedures to set out minimum standards of expectations, such as codes of conduct, procedures to follow for dealing with child protection concerns, other welfare issues or complaints, and to ensure that England Athletics, clubs and associations meet their statutory responsibilities to safeguard and protect children and adults. Welfare contributes to good practice within athletics, develops performance and helps to ensure the safety and enjoyment of athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers.

At Leeds City AC, we aim to provide a safe environment where children, young people and adults can take part in athletics. Coaches, club officials, volunteers and parents/carers of athletes all have a role to play in maintaining the welfare of our children and young people.

Sarah Samuel is our Welfare Officer and can be contacted with any concerns. Any matters raised with her will be dealt with sensitively and confidentially. This does mean that there may be occasions when issues are being dealt with and other club members will not be aware.
